Sounds like it happens quite a bit. Just a non stop transit going through multiple countries without the need of customs and etc. Did something happen on this ride that made it significant? Can you post the article here? The "White" Russian Revolution had just ousted the the Czar who stepped down so command and control in Russia was in a shambles in 1917. The Germans sent Lenin and his crew to St. Petersburg with $10 Million ($180 million in today's money) to foment the "Red" Russian Revolution. The Germans did this to distract the Russians from their Eastern Front, so they could concentrate more forces on the Western Front. Of course, we all know what happened after Lenin got to Russia.<br /><br />The Germans (with the Warburg's money) seeking a short term tactical gain ended up with a long term Strategic blunder by the time WW II came around.
