Military Get Togethers. Would you like one in your area?

This is kind of a new angle on an old idea but I would like to start-up get togethers reminiscent of the old days, when we went on a tour or a TDY. It would be a kind of mobile canteen where we could hang out, grill, listen to music and maybe watch a movie. Kind of like the togetherness of the M.A.S.H, units or canteens at Rhein Mein AB. in Germany.

I am not suggesting a format and I am cognizant of local laws, though frivolous, could impede us. Maybe find some lawns darts, drink a few beers and just hang-out. I have some really cool ideas on special guests but no officers! Just kidding!

I live out in the country with about 17 acres of land so we would have a lot to do. We can also discuss how we can help our local communities and partner with law enforce enforcement and pro-bono help but the main idea is too have fun, military style.

Regardless of our political ideas you all are brothers and sisters and love you dearly because of that. Let me know what you think? I live in Greensboro, about 40 miles away from Durham and Raleigh.

I would love to be there, but my schedule has been crazy lately (add to the fact that we have every possible nuclear inspection coming up). Great idea though.

I remember going to Rhein Mein and staying in the old Luftwaffe Dorms. They were a pale green and I was in the basement. The picture in the avatar was my room there. Of all the places, this was the coolest. Nothing but a radio that was broadcasting in German or AFN radio, which I was on doing the weather a couple of times.

I have a graduate from the University of Arkansas, a Meteorologist who can take this business at the right moment. Seizures are making it hard to talk sometimes.

I think it's a great idea. I'm just disappointed that R/D is like 2000 miles from here. haha

This reminds me of a major forum website that does something similar. They just announce a random party at a bar somewhere in the country and people who can go show up. Extremely informal, but successful whether it's 10 or 100.

Was Cdr of my Local VFW for a long time. Also attended the Navy League Monthly meetings. Just taking a break right now. Of course I always like swapping Sea Stories with my Fellow Veterans.

Sounds fun, but I doubt I could attend. I work full time at a low paying job. I can't miss work, and I have no idea if I even earn vacation or sick time.

But I've always been a wolf-pack of one. I'm sure this would be great for a lot of people, and I'd definitely support such a meet-up. Keep us informed. Maybe a Facebook group or something. This thread wouldn't be good for updates.

Did you mean for this to be a regional thing? I thought there was already an annual RP conference, or something.
