Military Disounts

Should we get them? I ask this because my thought process is that I joined the
Active Army after 1974 so therefore it was a time of all volunteer. We chose this profession whether it be the little over 20 years that I served or 3 years. Policeman carry a gun everyday and keep us safe while we sleep at night as well. Teachers educate us and our children and make us the successful country that we are through educating and they get no discounts. What makes us who serve after 1974 so special that we think we are entitled to a discount at a place of business somewhere. Don't get me wrong I am thankful that our society has evolved enough that we are not getting spit on like my fathers military generation. I bring this up because the other day I witnessed a veteran yelling and arguing at an employee of a franchise business because they did not offer a veterans discount. It blew me away his actions and why he thought this poor lady had anything to do with corporate policy. After left, I apologized for and explained that not all veterans think this way or act this way. Anyway, here is my question and wondering what the group thinks/

SFC Private RallyPoint Member, to answer your direct question, "should we get them?", I believe that answer lies solely with the individual or organization that would offer a military discount.

To get the the heart of your post though, should we feel entitled to a financial discount for something simply because we are in the military? I would say, "absolutely not!" All military pay and incentives are public record. You are free to research exactly what you will receive before ever joining the service. To expect or feel entitled to anything above that can simply not be justified.
