If not, rent an apartment at a Greystone complex. Pros- all of the best schools for Combat arms are at Fort Benning. Cons- Its a TRADOC post, so do your three years and move on. Do not go to Fort Benning if you are below the rank of SGT, or have not completed 18 months rated Squad Leader time as a SSG, you will end up three years behind your peersResponse by SSG Raymond Whitener made Dec 10 at 2015 2:22 PM2015-12-10T14:22:57-05:002015-12-10T14:22:57-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member1165857<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If on in Georgia Stay north of Macon. Even better to be out in Harris county. Alabama property taxes are way lower than GA in case you're thinking about buying. within the city limits of Columbus, it kinda sucks but ft Benning is def a hidden gem opportunity wise.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 10 at 2015 2:50 PM2015-12-10T14:50:12-05:002015-12-10T14:50:12-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member1165947<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Columbus, GA is great. I spent my entire enlistment on Kelley Hill (except for the time they were renovating and some of us were living on Main Post for a while. When I first got there it was 3rd BDE 24th ID. Then we changed to 3rd ID. I was a mechanic on an MST (maintenance support team) for 317 Eng. I loved it there, despite the bad rap Kelley Hill always got. I moved off post while I was still in. Me and a girl friend of mine moved to a place called The Lodge apartments off exit 3. Normally, I would say that you should go at least exit 5 and north of that. Whisper Wood is nice. That being said, The Lodge was nice. The apartments were very well maintained. The pool was always clean and in great condition and the tennis court was quite nice too. I think that, at least when I lived there, it was nice because it was off the beaten path. I looked up the address for you. 464 N. Oakley Dr. Exit 3. Now, don't be confused. There is another apartment complex on exit 3 that another girl friend of mine lived in with her husband and it was nasty. Totally ghetto.Response by SPC Mara Manzer (Spurgin) made Dec 10 at 2015 10:03 PM2015-12-10T22:03:12-05:002015-12-10T22:03:12-05:00SSG John Caples1168704<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I lived in Ft Benning for a year before being retired out of the Army , there are a lot of new homes when you come in the main gate on off Custer Road before you get to the PX , if you are going to 3rd Id GOOD LUCKResponse by SSG John Caples made Dec 11 at 2015 3:55 PM2015-12-11T15:55:03-05:002015-12-11T15:55:03-05:00SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member1174333<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I liked Ft. Benning. I was stationed there for over 3 years. Their medical clinic was the best out of all the post I've been to. During sick call though it's along wait, they will see you that day. JBER and Bragg doesn't do that, they will give you an appointment like a week later. It's a busy post. Like most military cities Columbus GA isn't the greatest but if you go out the back gate in AL, there's a lot of great restaurants.Response by SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 14 at 2015 10:31 AM2015-12-14T10:31:59-05:002015-12-14T10:31:59-05:00MAJ Brent Nielsen1193640<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Whisper Wood is okay, you wanna stay east Columbus housing is cheaper there.Response by MAJ Brent Nielsen made Dec 23 at 2015 1:11 PM2015-12-23T13:11:11-05:002015-12-23T13:11:11-05:002015-12-10T11:49:54-05:00
