SSG David Sanders6674208<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was medically retired 2017 because of “PTSD”<br />that occurred back in 11-12 OEF.( no direct combat, my buddy was killed) and I went to talk to a doctor while I was in combat because he was killed. I was diagnosed when I was going through a regular ets. So here I am 3 years later wanting to go in to the NG or AR. Is there anyway I can give up this retirement or put it on hold to joined? I think I have a compelling argument on why I should be able to serve and I am in way better shape than most service member(not hating just take care of my body). Can some point me to a board where I can ask/ apply for a waiver.Medically retired, hopefully I can get back in?2021-01-19T16:41:56-05:00SSG David Sanders6674208<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was medically retired 2017 because of “PTSD”<br />that occurred back in 11-12 OEF.( no direct combat, my buddy was killed) and I went to talk to a doctor while I was in combat because he was killed. I would look at your RE Code on your DD-214. It will tell you your chances. If you are anything but an RE-1 then you are going to have some issues. But from what I understand the military will not take anyone that has mental health issues. There is a chance if they believe you have recovered but you should talk to a recruiter about this.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 19 at 2021 5:25 PM2021-01-19T17:25:25-05:002021-01-19T17:25:25-05:00SSG David Sanders6674371<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>*Sorry for all the grammar mistakes*Response by SSG David Sanders made Jan 19 at 2021 5:28 PM2021-01-19T17:28:31-05:002021-01-19T17:28:31-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6674387<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I know you can join the RC if you're receiving disability you just have to waive payment from one of the sources.<br /><br />I do not believe you can be removed from medical retirement, even temporarily, in order to serve in the RC. But I'm not a NG or USAR recruiter, which is who you should speak toResponse by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 19 at 2021 5:33 PM2021-01-19T17:33:32-05:002021-01-19T17:33:32-05:00SPC Matthew Springett6674398<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I'm in the same boat. I am 100% permanent and total through the VA, but I'm trying to go back into the guard because retirement is not for me at only 38. So I basically have to waive the payments that either the guard pays me or that the VA pays me. I can't get both payments concurrently. So what I would recommend is that you call the va's 800 number and inquire As to What your situation would be. What is your re-enlistment code on your DD-214? I would talk to a guard recruiter and explain to them your situation. My Guard recruiter told me that the disability rating is Irrelevant as long as you are able to do the job. But that's determined at Meps.Response by SPC Matthew Springett made Jan 19 at 2021 5:38 PM2021-01-19T17:38:11-05:002021-01-19T17:38:11-05:00SSgt Christophe Murphy6676935<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It depends. <br />Were you added to the PDRL or TDRL?<br />What is your RE code?<br />Have you discussed this information with a recruiter to get clarification?<br />I understand the desire to serve but it all depends on the details of your medical retirement. It will be difficult to make happen though and it isn't a guarantee that there is a payoff. I was medically retired in 2012 and looked into the same thing and was unable to do so due to my status and RE Code. <br /><br />I would look at alternative means to serve your community. CAP, State reserve if your State has one, reserve law enforcement, volunteer or reserve fire fighter. There are plenty of things you can do to make a difference instead of trying to get blood from this particular stone.Response by SSgt Christophe Murphy made Jan 20 at 2021 1:17 PM2021-01-20T13:17:25-05:002021-01-20T13:17:25-05:002021-01-19T16:41:56-05:00
