I am on assignment to PCS to my new duty station. My wife is reclassing then hopefully coming to the same assignment. How does on post housing work if I'm not the sponsor for our child and it doesn't have my child on my orders?

Sounds as though your wife is the child's sponsor. If that is the case, you might be stuck in barracks until she (hopefully) arrives at your duty location. You could try and work some mojo through your CoC and get on the waiting list earlier, but unless I miss my guess the base housing folks are going to want to see your wife's assignment instructions at least, if not her actual PCS orders.

I highly recommend you get an amendment to your orders if the child will travel with you. Unfortunatley, this only works if teh child is your dependent. If you go unaccompanied you will live in the Soldiers residence until your family arrives.

If you are on the MACP program, you can have your orders amended to say with dependent. Make sure her child is on your Deers also as a step child. It just means when you do your Travel claim, you will put down the child traveled as your dependent and when she does her TV, she will put unaccompanied since the child is in your care at this moment. Send an email to your Career Manager to get more info.
