Marines, How do you feel about the "Reawakening"? Other Servicemembers, how do you feel about this as a fellow servicemember?

I
stumbled upon this article recently and while it is focusing on the Marines I
think the military as awhole maybe able to relate. What did you feel when the
General sneered while he stated “combat hardened”? Do you
think he was out of line? Do you agree that the officer corps has long ago
turned into not a group of leaders of warriors, but of managers and
politicians? Does anyone have a rebuttal to his statements? Anything to add to this?

I don't know what the general intention and feeling at heart really are, but I do know that the American fighting man/woman are the premier fighting force. We have the technology and ability to win, even thought it appears that our politicians are selling us short. But just because I have been in 7 combat missions doesn't mean that I have all the answers. What I do know is that we as a generaltion of warriors in no way can we stand up the the warrior generation of our grandfathers. It is a sorry state of affairs, but we are nowhere in the same league. The sad fact is that we as a generation are living on the traditions and legacy of our grandfathes. We the less than 1 percent of the nation are the Sheppard guarding over the sheep that this nation is made up of. We are what stands in the light defending from the darkness that is threatening us. Was the general snearing, because he thinks the same or is he a politician I don't know. All I know is for God and country, till the the day I die, the day I retired from the military I took of the uniform and had the American Flag tattooed on my right arm, still waving as if charging into battle. I will always be willing to stand up and and defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic. We as the American fighting force active, reserve, guard and retires are the future of this great nation. We will keep the peace and lead the sheep to safety.

For the life of me I can't understand why someone would sneer at today's combat veterans. Some of those troops in Afghanistan and Iraq have spent years of their lives in combat. I got medevaced to Landstuhl with a 3x PH recipient (his words). I'm at a loss.
