Marines do you feel that the term leatherneck promotes animal cruelty?

I came across a fellow Marine who questioned my military service yet on his face book he has a post that says he believes that leatherneck promotes animal cruelty. And instant Motard mode activated I hit him with repeatedly verbal knifehands to the throat. I just want some perspective here.

It'd be interesting to see if Pamela Anderson would be against silicone because of the destruction it can do to animals Kama Fish and Game in the ocean by plastic that does not break down for over a billion years. Lol, not going to happen with her!

I'd presume many of these PETA minded types drive Beemers. They seem to have no problem driving stuff that has a history of slave labor and use of Holocaust hair in textiles and submariner boot soles. The source was easily verified by lab analysis showing traces of Zykcon B. The human leather assertion is urban legend with no documented basis in my memory.

I'll add to CSM Charles Hayden in that once animals were created, they sought safety from the Marines. They'd wrap themselves around the Marine's neck so not to interfere with the weapon's field of fire. Someone else can venture the next verse.

In some strange leftist, brain damaged world it might promote animal cruelty. As you know, the term came from the collars Marines wore for many years made of leather. There were two stories about the use/reason for the collars. One was that the collar protected Marines from the slash of the cutlass. The other was that the high stocks were worn for discipline to keep the Marines' heads high and straight. I don't think either has been fully substantiated an it could have been both I guess.

If that is his standard then any piece of equipment used that come from an animal source, in whole or in part, promotes animal cruelty. That is just faulty thinking, very hard to understand, even harder to fix.

You might want to check this guys swim qual., My guess is that he is dumber than a rock and swims like one too...straight to the bottom.

That other marine is a moron. If he knew anything about the history behind the term he wouldn't be saying anything like that. Sounds like someone has had one too many tofu burgers and has decided they don't know what bathroom to use anymore.

It's possible that this Marine (I'm sceptical of his claim) just ate too many crayons. Just remind him that, while I'm sure they're tasty, moderation is always best. Then cast doubt on his claims of being a Marine. After all, the only time I've seen an offended marine is when someone makes fun of Chesty Puller's nickname.

What an idiot! Leatherneck come from the 1st 50+ years of your uniform- which had a high stiff leather collar to force you to keep your head up (even a grunt knows this). It sounds like his brain is on deployment.
