Luther is the current Chief Strategy Officer at Navy Mutual, a nonprofit Veterans Service Organization whose mission is to provide Members life insurance at as near the actual net cost as possible. Prior to joining Navy Mutual, Luther served as a naval aviator in the U.S. Navy and served multiple tours in the Pentagon on the Joint Staff, Navy Staff, and Navy Secretariat as an Action Officer, Financial Analyst, Congressional Liaison, Director of Operations and Plans, and the Budget Officer for the Department of the Navy. He graduated from Marquette University with a B.S. in Computational Mathematics and holds an MBA from George Mason University.

In addition to life insurance services, Navy Mutual also provides annuities, assists members of the uniformed services in securing survivor benefits, and educates on matters of financial security. Based in Arlington, VA, Navy Mutual has been serving service members and their families since 1879.

Hi RDML Brian Luther -- thanks for presenting this topic to all of us. I have a few questions:
1. I am married with 3 young kids. I have some life insurance but frankly, I don't have an intelligent sense of whether I have enough of it. Insurance can be confusing to figure out for people who aren't experts on it...so can I ask you...how can I figure out whether I have the right amount of life insurance?
2. I recall that prior to my deployment to Iraq, some people in my unit bought extra life insurance. However, I think the vast majority of people, especially the junior enlisted Soldiers, weren't AWARE of this and that they should consider doing this. How can we reverse this, and help make sure service members are aware of this, etc?
3. VGLI -- I'm embarrassed to say that I have never heard of this, and I'd like to learn more. Can you share some info that I can read on this topic to educate myself?
4. My parents are getting up there in age. They are pretty healthy for their age, but does Navy Mutual Aid Assn offer any products that I could use to specifically help cover my parents?

70%connected not to mention non connected cardiac issues. Can I get insurance without it costing large monthly fee. DAV money can only stretch so far.

RDML Brian Luther Why has going from SGLI to VGLI gotten so expensive for veterans? A lot of veterans can't afford to take on VGLI afte they leave the service. The lower ranks are missing out on some really good benefits because of the monthly expense. Your thoughts on how we can change this and will it get changed in the future? Thanks
