Just found out that I am on orders to go to Guantanamo Cuba. Can anyone tell me what to kind of expect going there?

What things are there to do. Do you get cola or hazard duty pay while there? Are you able to travel while your there?

Depends on what company you're assigned to, and the side of the island that you will be assigned, you can be tasked with Inprocessing incoming soldiers to their Units, or just inprocessing Soldiers and all other personnel to the Island. Either way it's a fun place outside of work. A lot of things to do outside. State of the facilities all over from the NEX, which is the Navy and Marines version of the PX. About 2 night clubs, or outside Day and night Tiki bars. And a lot of Jamaicans because they are responsible for Island, and Quarters beautification, and many more.

I always felt it was like Hawaii without the tourists and sand. The heat will hit you as soon as they open the plane door, but don't worry, you'll soon be used to it. Not much in the way of travel is available, except to the Carrebean, which is nice. Not sure about plans to open up travel to Cuba itself, but I expect someone's talking about that. Can't speak to current pay though. Good luck!

You're not authorized to travel off base to Guantanamo City. The only travel you can do is fly off island to Miami or Norfolk. I was stationed there many years ago so things may have changed but I doubt it.

What unit are you going to and what is your MOS? If you like water sports and fishing you will love it. You can learn to scuba dive rent boats on your time off which was a lot of fun. I was a commander on the island a few years back. Inbox me if you have any questions

If you work in the camps you will get hazard duty pay.
