Junior enlisted: What do you want from your senior leadership to mentor and train you on with your military career and transition?

To all the junior enlisted, what do you want to see from your senior leadership to help/mentor/guide and train you on with your military career development and/or transition to the civilian world development? Please ask genuine questions that I, or my peers can answer so we can assist you on your path in or out the military.

When I was in, the one thing I wanted from my NCO/SNCO was guidance. I wanted to be taken under wing & taught how the job was done correctly.

Most of the NCOs did this, however, there was one SNCO in particular that seemed to be more interested in putting up a stone wall to the junior enlisted than he was mentoring us. I know for a fact that he was the reason several did not re-up when time came.

A leader that takes the time to mentor young NCO's to be better. Sees and grooms their leadership style into the one they already see prevalent in the young leader. Groom and work with strong female junior leaders the same way you would a male, looking past gender and acknowledging some of us are just as outspoken as our male peers.
