JEWISH WAR VETERANS? Do you know their history?

http://www.jwv.org/ Dr Ben Carson's book,'America the Beautiful' tells of Polish immigrant 'Haym Salomon' being a major financier of American's Revolutionary War.

At one point; "volunteered his personal fortune of nearly 600,000 pounds sterling to begin the American Revolution'.

Paraphrased: 'when captured by the British -- he persuaded over 500 Hessian soldiers to desert the British cause for the American side. Salomon also solicited every able-bodied Jewish man to fight in Washington's Army'.

"After the war, he organized the first American veteran's organization, 'The Jewish War Veterans'. which is still active today".

Thanks for sharing this information CSM Charles Hayden. I was not aware of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America and had not previously read about the roles of Haym Salomon in the infancy of this nation.

Thanks CSM. Growing up in Virginia I am a big Revolutionary War, Civil War history fanatic. But this is the first time I've heard this story. Good stuff.

SELF REBUTTAL, DR CARSON's book has inaccuracies!!! The Jewish War veteran's was founded by Jewish Civil War Veterans in 1896. see response from JWF.

I am afraid that Dr. Carson is mistaken. JWV was founded by a group of Civil War veterans in 1896 to refute the idea that Jews do not serve in the military.
