Jack Reacher character. Thoughts?

Just finished the first jack reacher novel. I was wondering what the military community members here thought of the character.

I like the novels, although the author certainly hasn't done any Army time and he is just a bit out there on weapons. If you read the novels first, you realize that Tom Cruise is not a good choice for the 6'5" 200 LBS + Jack Reacher.

I’ve read them all and the character is entertaining but a bit unbelievable then I remember the SFC who taught hand to hand combat to us back in Basic,he had various disciplines and skills in the martial arts,maybe the closest to the Jack Reacher I remember.

I think he is an exact replication of every Military Police Officer. They really hit the nail on the head here. Reminds me a lot of myself.

But seriously. I enjoy the movies but anytime you've got one guy who is an expert at EVERYTHING it tends to get a little unbelievable. But that's what makes it entertaining.

Never saw the movie or read the book but it is my impression he is something like Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan or that guy Kiefer Sutherland played when he would get shot in the leg a lot. My only thought it is that his name isn't very good. Sounds vaguely obscene.

Well I’m through 17 of the books. They are mostly entertaining. Definitely something to read if you are a book junkie and enjoy mysteries and action combined.
