Not to sound ignorant but are any of the House Representatives following the Islamic faith?
Personally I think that any opening prayer in a very mixed bag of religions should be kept neutral and not faith specific. From my limited understanding of Islam they don't seem to accept people not of their faith into their prayers so why would you have an Islamic prayer to Allah in the House of Representatives?

Islam is like every other religion, they all have their radicals and extremists. It is aggravating that the silent majority do not speak out against the violent minority but you can't condemn Islam as a whole. This was just an attempt at diversity.

What is so confusing about the government not endorsing or condemning any religion? If they are going to have some sort of prayer, it needs to be all inclusive. Like it or not we live in a diverse nation with a wide array of religious beliefs. We need to be respectful of that. There is a difference between someone who is religious and a terrorist acting on a twisted interpretation of religion.

It may have been a good prayer, but we are not a nation built on Islam. We are a nation built on Christian beliefs. Why would anyone condone our Government have an opening prayer asking for Allah's blessing.
You need to really look into that religion and the Koran to realize that the whole basis of the religion is to either convert or kill the non believers of Islam. This is not a religion of tolerance of other religions. They do not believe in loving thy neighbor as thyself.

It is not incumbent on the United States to redefine itself to prove how tolerant we are. Look how tolerant the Middle East is to Jews and Christians. Personally, I do not approve of changing our entire culture and value system so we can pat ourselves on the back and congratulate one another on being so accepting. You must understand that there is zero reciprocity with Islam when it comes to what culture they want for you.

PV2 Scott Goodpasture While we a re a Christian Nation, we were founded on religious freedom and freedom from the oppression of the British Crown. Perhaps the content of the prayer justifies the allowance of the prayer, but as long as we are free, why disavow this act? This is not an act by an extremist and is not intended as disrespect. I know this attitude will not set well with some, but think about before you vote me down. When we deny religious freedom, even in our Congress, when does the reduction of freedom stop? I wore a uniform in service of our country for 23 years and nothing in my life has meant more. I wore that uniform to protect the rights of all citizens to protest even me as a Soldier and Marine. If we protect one freedom, we should protect them all?

My thoughts:
First, I believe PV2 Goodpasture is racist and thought he would have more support with his question about Muslim prayers, than he is receiving. Also, I don't like to connect with someone who is afraid to show their face and military profile. Second, PV2 Goodpasture is too young to understand how most of us feel about freedom of religion and our Constitution we all fought for to preserve and keep America a free Nation that has allowed anyone to come to America, as long as they are here legally. We fought and lost friends, in order to keep our free to do that. Third, Can you imagine how much the Muslim put their lives in danger praising our country and our military. I think it took some guts to do what they did. My loyalties are with America and those who want to be an American. Simple as that.

I do not judge people of any faith because of the actions of the extremists in their faith. If that were the case I wouldn't be able to trust anyone of any faith.

O M G! Well, when it comes to the matter of Prayer there's much to be said by men of all creeds. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the Son of God however said little.

He Taught about prayers to be done in the PRIVACY of our homes, in SECRET. So to me at least that's an indication that Public prayers were NOT his Favorite prayers. Prayer according to Jesus, is a PRIVATE doing by a believer, semi-private when in the company of other Believers. Prayer is NOT a Spectacle to be seen by other men, but a PRIVATE affair between God Our Father and the believer, His child. Now, let's see what Jesus said about the subject in the Gospel of Matthew.

Matt. 6:5-8
5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

It’s being politically correct to say islam is just like all other religions. It’s a chicken shit position to take. We all know damn well there’s only one religion(cult) today that has millions of followers committing horrible acts in the name of that religion. What was the purpose of the event and how did the Muslim community interpret it?

We are thinking in terms of the way Western man thinks and views the world and events. If you want the real answer read the book The Arab Mind.

I'd also begin to develop a library and fill it with books and literature that covers the Muslim Brotherhood and the Muslim Religion to include its prominate figures.

For me; we are at war. Our political leaders have failed to acknowledge this to the American People. Read Osama Bin Laden's fatwa ( 1-3), and it will become clear to you. If not just go over and check out an airport. That security is not set up to stop illegal Halloween candy.

Also for the conspiracy theorist you could look up and read about the documents that were discovered in Manchester England in an Al Quaeda safe house or look up the Dawea Doctrine for the United States. These documents are the blueprints for establishing and dominating a new land.

Long non answer for you to discover for yourself exactly what is happening and to determine why something is important in the Islamic world which may appear mundane in our world.

I am mormon and would rather hear God called upon to support and sustain our nation and leadership than not. I pray to my Heavenly Father, and I would suppose that He would hear the honest prayer of another. Muslim's must take control of their own religion, Catholicism went through the Reformation which resulted in all of the Protestant sects of today - and pretty much the end of that theocracy. The church of England being a tawdry offshoot also. I hope that islam will under go a similar experience before the rest of us have no choice remaining but to turn Mecca and Medina into glassy waste lands and to hold the name 'muslim' in the same contempt we do 'nazi'. Humanity cannot survive several billion of it's members who wish to subjugate all others at all cost, one will win - one to the enslavement of vast numbers of 'non-believers' - and the other to the massive lost of life of misguided persons. I believe in the right of every person to worship God in the manner they believe is correct or to not worship at all - at the same time I am not naive enough to believe that the theocracy practiced by islamist can co-exist with any liberty loving peoples. If that theocracy continues to prevail globally - it will be war to the knife for us all.....

Many of you seem to be oblivious to situations around our great nation. Christianity is being shunned and Islam is being placed on a pedestal as a religion which is untouchable. Though it's easy to do, it's not fair to say all Muslims are bad.....or evil. Not all Muslims want us dead or to harm us in any way. I want to sometimes put them all into one "bad" category, but I don't.
Last month I walked into a gas station. A female covered from head to toe in black...which turned me off immediately...two children with her...one boy and one girl...dressed normally. The female had pretty light blue eyes and I could see some blonde hair...my first thought was not a good one...but I had to tell myself this was her choice, her prerogative. I automatically want to put these people in the "bad" category, but I always catch myself and don't....when I went back out to finish pumping gas, they were right next to me. Her husband, a Muslim asked me for directions....I politely answered and he thanked me.
No matter how much we want to group all Muslims into the "bad" category....we shouldn't. They are not all bad people.

I am a proud Muslim soldier and I find your question ignorant and offensive. With that being said young troop I'm going to offer a little advice. First I want you to take time a learn a little more about the beautiful religion that is Islam before you pass judgment. Number 2 realize that as a soldier you fight for the right of religious freedom regardless of whether or not you agree with it. Number 3 watch what you say on social media especially a military based website, because they Army regularly monitors sites such as these and your words can be used against you to support UCMJ action.

I have read and replied to a few posts on this thread and will not apologize for my harsh criticisms or tone. And to answer this question No, I have no issue with this at all, none. I fully support the prayer in the House chamber.
Congress needs all the divine help and guidance it can get if they are to remove their collective heads out their a....
No group of people needs help more than the US Congress so I say let them pray, pray twice a day.
As for the religiously intolerant, islamaphobes and separation of church and state folks, well you can always create a caliphate with those who think like you do, destroy the symbols and places of worship of those you disagree with and use your religious beliefs to enslave others. If your not sure how call ISIS, I'm sure they have a manual you can use.
