Is there anyone in Colorado that can help me with my transition?

I'm getting out of the Marines near the end of February and I'm looking for employment to help me with my transition before I start school in the fall. I need a job in which I can make enough money to support my family. I've been applying at many jobs and trying to network, but it's hard to do when I don't know anyone there

I have a couple friends down there. What are you wanting to do, are you willing to do local contracting work, what do you plan on for a major, where specifically in CO? There are plenty of defense industry firms in that area. Besides work study through the VA, there might be an opportunity to get your foot in the door in a job with a chance to grow as you complete your degree.

You may want to create a LinkedIn profile. Your resume should be tailored for the position you are applying for, but I also recommend a couple of resumes prepared for a just in case meeting (I call them "Drive-By Resumes"). One very civilianized version with general knowledge, skills, abilities, and work experience and schooling (not to exceed two pages'ish); and I also maintain one which is more in depth (longer) and comprehensively covers duty titles, responsibilities, and specialized military schooling.

I transitioned from overseas after a one year tour w/o my family in Sept. to return stateside and retire all within 10 months but the kicker is I waited until Mar 2015 to begin SFL-TAP (ACAP) and then cleared the military beginning Jul. I used ALL my transition leave to complete needed courses towards my degree and take classes offered to Soldiers, Spouses and Vets until my last day of leave and walked into a job. I had several offers but through prayer decided the one best for my family and myself.

The first thing I will say, "Pray!" Pray for what you want in agreement with your spouse then begin your search in faith knowing God will provide.

Check out the Colorado Department of Labor to see what they provide while transitioning and to send you lists or if you need to create an account online like NC. Through NC, they offer courses through ALLISON and they let me sign-up for ResCare which gives $8K.

DAV events, Recruit Military events and the VA Employment Officer for CO

See if there's any Career Transition Tech programs offered through the employment office for Vets/Spouses or through the nearest military installation

VCTP - Vocational Career Transition Program through Syracuse Univ. and JPMorgan & Chase Co offers Soldiers, Spouses and Vets certification free to you and your spouse.

Get a letter from your S-2 on the status of your clearance if you have one, get copies of your medical records, families med. records, ALL your C-Scans, MRI's, X-Rays, etc.

Pre-file your VA Claim through the American Legion, DAV, VFW, etc. prior to your departure and ensure you get your last Physical done which is your bread and butter later with VA.

Cpl Joseph Gibbons. I would suggest making contact with the Soldier for Life Program on Ft. Carson. They assist with all aspects of separating Soldier, Marines, Airmen and Sailors when it comes to employment. They have great contacts within the community of Colorado Springs. XCel energy is the fifth largest employer of military veterans. Put an online application in through them. They are very big in Denver and are hiring.

You said you were going to school for mechanical engineering. Do you have any construction experience?
Also, may I suggest looking at the towns of Lafayette and Broomfield for affordable housing within commuting distance to Boulder for school? I live about an hour away from Denver to the northeast and am familiar with commuting in to the Denver/Boulder areas.

I guess ithe questions about whether we"killed" anyone in combat is from total idiots, I have a request from anyone who can help me, I am a Disabled Vet and ask anyone who can donate a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive , or even a car I live in a rural part of Pennsylvanis and my jeep has too much undercarriage rust to pass state insp. all Vet agroups say "were not set up for donation" my jeep has really too many miles on it please contact me if u can help by email I can be vetted by Roy Evans Scranton Veterans Rep, in Scranton PA. Please help me insp coming up in sept. of this year and I cannot find enough work to cover at least 8 or 9 hundred dollars worth of rust removal, Thank You!
