I am glad you asked. For the first time in 20 years, I am finally excited about a candidate. I am supporting Dr. Ben Carson. I think he is the breath of fresh air this country needs.

I am thrilled that former Governor Martin O'Malley announced his bid for the Democratic nomination. I can't stand Hillary. IMHO she's a hawk, too old, and baggage to boot - but I would vote for her over anyone in the GOP. So, yes, I am mildly excited!

I can see myself begrudgingly supporting either/both Dr. Ben Carson and Dr. Rand Paul. I say "begrudgingly" because I consider myself a Libertarian. Ben Carson is for increased gun-control in "high crime areas." Both men are against same sex marriage (I am 100% heterosexual but support gay marriage).

Dr. Paul is 100% against the Patriot Act and any/all forms of gun control for law abiding citizens, and I can definitely get behind that.

In fact, the majority of what both men claim they stand for I can support but as always with all politicians, I don't agree 100% with them.

Unfortunately, too many people are blinded by party lines, and the travesty known as the Electoral College means that a viable third party candidate will never get elected, even if they switch parties (as Dr. Ron Paul, Rand Paul's father did when he switched from the Libertarian to the Republican Party). Too many "old school" party members will shun them and they won't be taken seriously, and too many people are blinded by party lines.

I say, "Wake up America. Your party doesn't care about what you think. Elect a real person instead of a corporate representative!"

I think my excitement comes with the election process itself regardless of the candidates. Now, don't get me wrong, having strong candidates with good backgrounds and positive potential to make influential and positive changes for our country is always a plus. I think right now for me, a republican, it's too early to tell. There are a lot of candidates out there and I don't know too much about all of them yet to make an informed and intelligent decision on who I would vote for yet.
