Is there an actual MOS for being a photographer?

I know there is the 25V MOS however I'm better behind the camera more than anything (still and motion picture).

46Q Public Affairs, and 25V arr about as close as you will get. 47R Is journalist and requires several interviews.

Well, in the CG we have public affairs people! they often have to take photos in the field.

Combat camera, I'm not sure if the Army has that equivalent, but all Marine Corps photos are done by Combat Camera. Hell, I think they do video recording too.

There's an AFSC in the Air Force for photojournalism, not sure if that counts.

25V is the MOS designation for audiovisual or as you call it still and motion picture

When I was in between 1989 and 1995 it was 25S Combat Documentation Specialist. I spent quality time in Hohenfels Germany documenting the fun and games there and in Ft. Lewis WA just doing grip and grins

There used to be. The AF in its' infinite wisdom, merged still photographer with PA journalist. I still have old troops who are now SrNCOs, they tell me it, the merger, hasn't worked. From what imagery I've seen, the quality of AF imagery has gone downhill big time. Military photographers need the freedom and support to be able to go out and document the mission. Not be bogged down doing make work BS under the PA mantra. Photography is an art, to be good at it takes a huge investment in time and training. Trying to make photographers into journalists, and visa versa, is a recipe for failure.

That would fall under marines. They are the only branch (i can think of) where photographer and videographer are separate MOSs

For Army Combat Camera is a matter of who you are assigned to but we all fall under the MOS of 25V. We do photo and video but usually lean more towards one or the other. 46's have to do all the PR bs but we just document what is going on. The Marines Airforce and Navy have mixed their public Affairs with their photo and video so we are the only branch that actually ONLY documents what's happening. We don't write stories.

So i am a 25v we are the only job like us in the army you learn photography and motion picture. You do both all the time also. As a 25V you will always stay very busy and have tons of time to work on your skills. Also it dosent matter if your better at on or the other.
