Is there a way to still get my reclass and not go to Korea?

I am currently a 31B in Fort Leonard Wood, for the last 9 months I have been trying to reclass to 46R. Just yesterday I was told I would be coming down on orders to Korea. Is there any way to avoid going to Korea and get my reclass to happen? I really want to be in this field and feel as though it is my best shot for professional development.

I was just wondering as I'd read what you'd said, I obviously know nothing about public affairs, howecerz I was merely curious, have you had any training at all for it thus far? Any college coursework in administration, media, news, or anything similar? I entirely comprehend your object, I was merely curious how you'd gone about thus far trying to help justify the changeover, in terms of overall background, if you might care to elaborate at all, purely a thought, of course out of interest, many thanks.

I don't know about you Rob, but the ROK was fun assignments for me and I enjoyed my stay there very much. Therefore, if you are reclassing just to avoid being assigned to the ROK, there is no honest way to do so. Be a Soldier and accept your assignments with a smile; you will learn to enjoy the tour. Try it.

Also, if here any active duty TV/radio journalist types near your installation, or you could call say some Army TV unit, doing videos that wind up on YouTube, just to verbally chat, when and/or if time ever permittedz, that, too was another thought I'd just had, you know?

Just as a thought, I'd seriously try to call them, and chat with their senior NCOs, as well as find their unit closest to where you are, volunteer with them, as well as maybe send their commander a letter, possibly, if allowed, of course to exhibit your interest and motivation, aoongmwityna resume, listing all your volunteer stuff, and also any transcripts as well, get aholdmof DANTES if you haven't already, and get a military transcript, if you haven't gotten one till now, I'll try to send more, just a further thought...

I did a 2nd bach in !ath through them, a friend did his bach in math and went Navy OCS using it, they were part of NYS govt, ten privatized, look up!also Oak Tee College, in CT and Edison State Univ in NJ, Excelsior also has a masters in liberal studies you could certainly direct toward journalism, I'd expect, they're regionally accredited, the svcs have known about Excelsior for urs and yrs, OK?

This isn't a panacea, howecer, zero tuition, onoy admin and exam costs, Excelsior and DANTED have their own exam programs, also, they give comp sci, bus admin, health sci, and an MBA, I'm just unsure if the svcs, VA, and I dustry accept them, so dont take it on faith, the Vatican just endorsed them, I've read good things, ask first, OK?

Also, even if you do have to go to Korea, I'm quite certain there must obviously ne AFN or 46R units there, you could still always volunteer wit them, also, does your own present unit use public relations at all where yupou could make the transition gradually from inside your own organization at all? I'd just wondered....

Once you get orders your chances drop dramatically. Ask the status of your request and talk to the S1 shop or who ever is pushing your packet.

And what you're being told here is in all likelihood right, certainly; as I may have mentioned, I never got to deploy or travel outside CONUS, quite frankly, I envy your chance to do so, actually...I understand your desire for the the other field, I'm just saying that as I'd had a chance, in all likelihood, to have gone to Europe, and got into another office on a PCA at my installation, I've always kinda wondered what such overseas travel would've been like, you know?

I have heard that the re-class process takes a little long...I have never done it, but that's what I heard. Now, if you're on orders to go to Korea, that's pretty much a done deal. I would embrace it and go to Korea, but also check with your Admin to know the status of your re-classification. Then again, what if you're able to re-class, and still go to Korea? That would be funny. Good luck!

I wish I could help here, but I haven't been on the active side for a long time.. "Back in my day" I got out'a going to Korea with my buddies because I didn't have a full year until my ETS.. So I wound up in Somalia instead! ~I'm guessing your reluctance for Korea really might be more to do with the young lady.. Unfortunately, Uncle Sugar don't care.. Maybe check into PCS swaps? Side note, I'm a re-classed 46R, I got my MOS by volunteering for a deployment.. My point, is actually only that 46Q is probably the better way to go, career wise. Good luck!

No, you cannot avoid your orders. When you Reclass, the Army pays for it and will send you TDY enroute to your AIT with the follow on of your duty station. You are placed on training and 90 days prior to training start you are placed on assignment. The two are part of the same process. The Army pays for your training so they move you to the location with the greatest need for that MOS.
