Is there a way to reclass without having to pay back my bonus?

I'm wanting to switch my MOS, I got a $12,000 bonus when I joined a little over 3 years ago. I dont have much room to advance im my current MOS and would like to reclass.

Thats a good question, which would be best answered by your chain of command. If you already have 3 years in the MOS, I would say just finish your contract, then reclass. You have your whole career in front of you.

Is your MOS one of the shortage MOS's, and that would be my guess, then you will probably have to wait until you re-enlist to get the chance to reclass. I would talk to COC and Retention to find my real world options. You might get lucky and be in an over strength MOS.

I would just finish of the contract by extending so you wont get out. Once you complete your time that you signed for the $12,000 then you can re-class. Cause you know the Army they will want the money back if you don't complete your contract. And they will most likely ask for all of it.

For the NG? No. If you don't finish your obligation you'll owe the unserved portion.

In some cases if you move over to another Bonus MOS it is possible but highly difficult.

From one Guard soldier to another I do not think so. They will do a debt payment on you and you will never see any bonus. I did this for my SMOS for promotion for a deployment. They got me for 12,000$ 6 yr reenlistment. It’s bull crap but it happens.
