If you haven't contracted yet and there's a need for the MOS, you should be able to contract for it if you otherwise qualify for it.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 30 at 2017 3:31 PM2017-06-30T15:31:14-04:002017-06-30T15:31:14-04:00SSgt Gary Andrews2691552<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Unless things have changed since I was on recruiting duty (and that was in the 70's, so they probably have), the Marine Corps doesn't offer specific MOS guarantees.....only a general field. As I was informed by my drill instructor when I requested a change of orders at the end of boot camp (which is when you will find out what your specific MOS will be), the Marine Corps will decide where they need you to go, and what they need you to do. You do have the option of requesting schools and transfers of MOS during the course of your service, but no guarantee it will be honored. If you decide to re-enlist at the end of your tour, you can request a change of MOS as a re-enlistment incentive, and that will be honored. Good luck in training young man.....becoming a Marine will be a proud moment in your life.Response by SSgt Gary Andrews made Jun 30 at 2017 7:23 PM2017-06-30T19:23:37-04:002017-06-30T19:23:37-04:00Cpl Mark A. But due to my ASVAB scores, the Marine Corps decided I should be working in the legal field. But when my ETS date was getting close, the company retention NCO told me that with my ASVAB scores, I was eligible for a transfer to any MOS field I wanted if I would reenlist. I didn't take him up on it. I guess the answer is to score high on the ASVAB and maybe you'll eventually be able to transfer into that MOS field.Response by Cpl Mark McMiller made Jul 1 at 2017 12:57 AM2017-07-01T00:57:15-04:002017-07-01T00:57:15-04:00Cpl Christian Sotoparra2697974<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>High ASVAB score did it for meResponse by Cpl Christian Sotoparra made Jul 3 at 2017 12:16 PM2017-07-03T12:16:18-04:002017-07-03T12:16:18-04:00MSG Brad Sand2698002<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><br />If you want a guarantee of a specific MOS in your initial contract, join the Army.<br />My favorite story that I heard was the sailor who enlisted in the Navy because they said he was going to be a 'fireman'.
