There are two actually. They are both ex-wives but we are still the best of friends. One is in the AF and has four years till she retires. I'm so proud of her for the work she does and has done. But to be honest, the most important/influential person in my life would be my former Sergeant Major. Her name is Carolyn Barnes and was the first major Sergeant Major that I encountered in my military career and has been there for me more times than I can count. Back when I was a young private, she instilled into me the importance of taking care of Soldiers and doing what you can to take care of them. She taught me about the importance of being a true Noncommissioned Officer. In my opinion, she was the best NCO I have ever encountered and taught me the difference between a NCO and a Sergeant. I have always done my best to live to these values of what she taught me when I have encountered my Soldiers and helping them through their cases/issues. Although, I know she is not on here on Rally Point, I give everything I ever learned of being an NCO to her!! Thank you, Sergeant Major Carolyn Barnes aka Mama Barnes!! I knew ladies who worked at North American Aviation in Los Angeles CA near the LA Airport & helped to build the B-25 Mitchell Bomber and P-51 Mustang. They told me they worked 6 & sometimes 7 days a week to keep up with the Airplanes scheduling requirements. Some had kids and their husbands were overseas in the military. One lady lost her husband who flew one of the planes she helped to build and still went to work at North American.

When asked about how tough it was working on these planes, they never complained and said not as bad as the boys had it in the Pacific or Europe..
