I was also told that they would only replace expendables as needed for dead-lined.

Is there doctrine that supports having some % of replacement parts? Is there a regulation regarding the amount of Class 9 parts that should be on hand for unit-level maintenance?2017-06-15T17:50:29-04:001SG Private RallyPoint Member2652857

My unit recently switched to M50 series masks. Maybe the quantity for some of those parts are at least 2.

I normally went through the SAMS-E clerk and had no issues.

Past the SAMS-E shop, the TM, the CBRN FM's, and a possible CBRN defense school house on base, I got nothing.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 15 at 2017 10:26 PM2017-06-15T22:26:15-04:002017-06-15T22:26:15-04:00SGT Joseph Gunderson2653589

I used to have the same issues when I was an armored. I would just go to your local -30 level maintenance guys and gals and out in a request for a handful of replacement parts. In my experience they were more than willing to throw me a small tacklebox full of misc parts so that I wouldn't have to bug them as often.Response by SGT Joseph Gunderson made Jun 16 at 2017 12:09 AM2017-06-16T00:09:52-04:002017-06-16T00:09:52-04:00SGT David T.2653955

I am a bit out of date with military regs, but I know there is a financial management rule called Bona Fide Need that prohibits stockpiling of parts. Essentially, you are limited to the parts you need for that fiscal year unless an exemption such as lead time applies. When I was an armorer, I ran into this regularly. What I did was when I ordered parts I would pad the request a bit. Say I needed 3 firing pins, I would order 5. I wouldn't take it to the extreme, but having enough to do common repairs on say 5-10 widgets shouldn't be a problem.Response by SGT David T. made Jun 16 at 2017 7:01 AM2017-06-16T07:01:25-04:002017-06-16T07:01:25-04:002017-06-15T17:50:29-04:00
