Is the V.A. on the road to reform with the new director?

The V.A. is implementing many new strategies to improve itself and to offer better care. These seem to be steps in the right direction. The new Director's improvements are veteran driven changes. I know for those waiting for change the changes cannot come fast enough. http://www.va.gov/opa/bios/secretary.asp

Perhaps a new director will make a difference over time if the director is able to change the culture at the top and middle levels of the VA administration CPT Private RallyPoint Member. GEN Shinseki attempted to move the VA in new direction. As a responsible director he assumed responsibility for the failures which took place under his leadership in the South West.
Changing the culture takes lots of effort and requires significant internal support and buy in as well as support from Congressional oversight committees. I certainly hope Robert A. McDonald will succeed to change the culture and improve the administration of the VA, the benefits evaluation process and the treatment and care of veterans.

The problem he has inherited a forest with many cancerous trees at all levels, but he can't find them fast enough. There is not enough integrity in the VA to be self policing in some VA hospitals or centralized operations.

The bigger difference will come when CONgress fully funds all the VA requirements to care for veterans now and in the future...

Well, Secretary McDonald certainly seems to have the background to succeed in his position. Not only is he a proven businessman but he's a veteran himself so he has a vested interest in reforming the department.
