Is the MOVSM required to have a lot of man hours, or is it at the Commander's discretion?

Was told that volunteer hours would help to this? Upon looking at the regs, it doesn’t state a specific time requirement?

There is no specific time frame in the requirement, but most commands use the 3yr/500hr rule. That seems fair to me. That works out to about 3 hours a week for 3 years at a minimum, but nothing to say that someone can't put in 3 months of full time volunteer work (40 hour weeks) and be deserving of the medal

Most commands I've seen go with 300 hours over the duration of your assignment, 2.5-3 years, but there us no set rule.

There is no requirement guidance for the MOVSM. It is totally at your Command's discretion. The standard is 3 years OR 400 hours, however, I have seen people get it with as little as 150 hours. My last Command required no documentation; my current Command does.

I flew both fixed & rotary wing aircraft. Fixed Wing OFWAC 60-8 at the first year that Ft Rucker became the Army Aviation Center and ORWAC Officers Rotary Wing Aviation Course (ORWAC 63-5) Fort Wolters, Texas.
Have you thought about going to flight school?

No, there is in the regulation Army Regulation 600–8–22 section - paragraph c.

The most confusing award ever put out. No one really knows. I have submitted people in the past on the Guard side and all I got was a royal run around.
