She was an amazing woman who did amazing things and is the only female recipient of a Medal of Honor. WOW! I am getting awarded the Mary Walker award next week (I’m in the reserve, my husband is active and I volunteer for his units FRG) but his unit is making a HUGE deal out of this and freaking out that I was chosen and there’s going to be a huge ceremony and I’m very confused why. I just want to know more about it and what this means? Im not ungrateful at all! <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I don&#39;t know much about the Mary Walker award but I guess its to honor an outstanding female soldier. Mary Walker was a radical for her time and she was a feminist before they had a name for them. Just be thankful you are being honored and try to live up to the ideals which guided Mary Walker.<br />To put things in some perspective - the unit commander probably wants to show his superiors that he is honoring someone who has done great things in the FRG. Remember that you also represent the other FRG members who do great work but are not noticed.
