In this report, there is a link to the demands0. Demands in which they held a meeting hostage until they were heard.
For example, "Our aspirations are untainted: free tuition via a University open to all, abolition of the police and prisons, free and collectivized housing and food, and more." While it has socialistic overtones, the abolition of Police and Prisons are the complete opposite of a Socialistic society. It's necessary for Police and prisons to keep the dissidents in check.

Socialism was practiced and dismissed by the Pilgrims when it almost destroyed their nascent community. Free markets saved them. The path they chose led this nation to become the most successful in all of history until the progressives began chipping away at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Those early purveyors of socialism had the best of intentions, but we know where those lead, don't we? They led right to FDR's failed efforts to break the back of the Great Depression, efforts that only extended it. However, it wasn't until the end of WWII that European academics migrated to the United States and settled into our institutions of higher learning that socialism became truly viable. There is an excellent book on this subject, one that I reviewed. You can read about it in this brief blog... http://www.jackdurish.com/4/post/2015/11/the-devils-pleasure-palace.html
Do you enjoy living in The Devil's Pleasure Palace? #GoodReads
Is there any question that we're living in The Devil's Pleasure Palace? Political correctness runs amok on American campuses as students demand freedom from offense and free everything else. Sex...

Personally, I think this is a fantastic opportunity for some social experimenting. Using MO University as a model, the UNC students should all be given free tents, and allowed to set up a tent city somewhere on campus. They would police themselves, no cops allowed inside the tent city except in life threatening situations (nothing stopping them from arresting people outside of it though). They can eat whatever they can grow -- but to get them through the winter, let them have MREs, two per day per person should do it. Heck, I'd even throw in free tuition for a semester, used books, a few portajohns, and discounts on camp stoves.
If I were part of the administration, and I was presented with a list of demands like that, I'd offer the protesters the option of a tent city like I described, or the option of having all their credits transferred to the institution of their choice, along with a refund of all tuition paid for the current semester -- because it is obvious that the university is not meeting the needs of the students, and the students deserve the chance to find another university which better fits their needs.

I don't think wanting free stuff that other people pay for has anything to do with race. The problem is work ethic. Some have it, some don't. I also don't think it is generational, because I have outstanding, hard-working Soldiers in that same age cohort. When those spoiled little college kids get out in the real world, they will figure it out.
What I can do about it is raise my three children right, and teach them that things earned are much sweeter than things granted. I love them too much to be their "friend".

Having seen real soviet socialism... we are FAR from that.... but? We see rampant social program and welfare fraud. Kids can't wear an Amerrican flag t-shirt to school. "police lives mater" is offensive. So it is getting to a tipping point. Some of that is the fed.... but a larger part is the states in lack of regulation.

I am not sure if it is coming under the guise of race relations. I think we have been on that path for decades. What scares me though is how these ideas have become pervasive in our academia and not just in the old school liberal strong holds but in what we generally think of as Red states. What we are seeing is an indoctrination of primary and secondary school students into the ideas that they are owed something. As these students have gone on to college, they are exposed even more to those ideas, leading to the "entitled" society. You see this so much in that progressives/socialists not tolerate any opposite views and "black lives matter" is just one example.

LTC Bink Romanick - Is not what this teacher intern attempted in line with what COL Jon Thompson is suggesting? http://abcnews.go.com/US/utah-school-fire-students-write-isis-propaganda-poster/story?id=35327613

Sgt Spencer Sikder A foolish choice, but hardly worthy of an endictment of the entire educational system. Things are never going to change back to what they were. Conservatives are going to have suck it up and drive on. Tough.

I think it's the other way around. More like socialists jumping on the race relations band wagon to advance their cause.

Sgt Spencer Sikder What's socialist about anything they demanded? Just because they demanded anything doesn't mean that they're going to get them. Socialist hardly. You're seeing Commies behind every bush Lolol

Actually, LTC Bink Romanick, I don't see commies behind every bush, nor did I suggest these students were interested in Communism. But when the naïve group is demanding, "free and collectivized housing and food," it seems to me that they want a socialize government that dispenses what the society needs.

Frankly, I think that these spoilt brats are useful idiots with no real understanding of anything they're regurgitating from their idiot professors. It's too bad their fathers didn't love them enough to discipline them physically when they were young enough for it to have done some good.

The American Communist party is supporting the Black lives matters racist. These idiot college students are pawns for the liberal agenda, partially educated with zero life experience. They need 4 years of military service after college so they can see abit of reality then give them the right to vote. This is how mob politics works. Their arguments are utter nonsense but they use mob mentality to threaten their view points instead of appealing to logic and reason. I guess when you have an illogical point to make you have to resort to thug mentality to make it. Why do these idiots get media attention? Because the media is a leftist tool, it supports all these ridiculous movements like blacklivesmatter an shines their own biased light upon the issue....dont worry about the fact the guy tried to grab a cops gun, he didnt deserve to get shot...dont worry about the fact that the guy who busted his spine was arrested by black and white cops...it was a racist issue. Socialism is getting attention because the liberal left needs a way to explain their last 8 years of failed policies and why people today are worse off than when their man Obama got into office. Why the world is more dangerous and why Obama is not paying their bills like they expected. They try to blame the republicans but last election shows the majority are not buying that so they want socialism because the alternative is that the conservatives were right all along...and God forbid that be the case.
