PV2 Private RallyPoint Member 3467061

I was looking into reclassing out of my current mos which is 11b and into 91b, because I’ve come to realize, I only want to serve one enlistment in the military, and I want to have career skills I can use in the civilian world, and when I joined the army, I had the hooah airborne mentality and signed up to be infantry, but I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be earning very many carryover skills. I’m curious about the criteria for reclassing out of my current mos before my ETS date. I have a total of 8 months of service right now. My mechanic line score was actually my highest at 128 and my GT is 117 if that will help with any answers. Any advice Is reclassifying to 91B a possibility? What you can do now is research and decide what you would envision as a future career. Just because your mechanic line score was high, does not mean that is what you would be happy doing. Also, many former infantry soldiers have led highly successful civilian careers. Consider taking college classes, and strive to be the best 11B in the Army.

http://work.chron.com/can-switch-jobs-army-19213.html

Can You Switch Jobs in the Army?

The U.S. Army offers a wide variety of career fields to its uniformed men and women. You should always have a 5 and 10 year plan. I would not worry to much about trying to change your MOS at this point. You will have your GI Bill to use once you leave the service you can then make a choice on what you want to learn. In the present the military is the only place you can have the job in the infantry. Do your best and take pride in the fact that you are part of Army history.
