Is Rallypoint just an additional outlet for political diatribes or do people actually come here to talk military issues beyond the politics?

I am no longer in the military and haven't been for 20+ years. Politics, more especially our responsibility to the Constitution and all it stands for is very important to me. Awareness and (self) education. I also like to help/mentor people. Science and the singularity are some of what I am passionate about. Being connected with the military mindset is another. The majority of the conversations I engage are military issues. Typically people asking for advice or to share experiences. Yes political diatribes happen, but that's the nature of the beast when people have a platform to engage others. I typically avoid the conversations that seem to be toxic in nature, but I have had some fairly friendly political discussions on here.

The software is adaptive to you. If you ignore certain posts you will see less of them. If you comment on certain subject you see more of them. Just a way to personalize the offering. It won't stop all the politics, but just start ignoring, discarding, or blocking the content you don't want and it will adapt.

I suspect it has to do with what you indicate you are interested in. I get a lot of politics and cool stuff about guns. If I were still in I'd focus more on some of the professional topics.

As I happen to favor Clausewitz in terms of military ideas, the two are intertwined. The military exists to further a political goal through other means. As such, they are inseparable. I think there should be a bit more respect for each other when discussing such issues, but that is another matter entirely.

MAJ Private RallyPoint Member I try to stay away from being too political on here. I try to post mostly about military stuff, or things that are interesting to the same point (militarily). What gets me is that many of my contacts post political stuff, therefore it tends to show up in my feed more often than others. I have to check in w/ the "Discussions" tab to get my good military ones.

I've had some grand discussion with many here, and very rarely for political causes. Many of it has been ethics related. Some of it has been in the world of motorcycles. Some of it has been in writing and hunting. There are many forums even here to have good open discussion on other topics.

Plenty of discussions about military issues. You can control what you see by what groups you follow and who you connect with. If you ignore the political bullshit, there's a lot of good here in RP. Definitely better than FB.

Even though it shouldn't be this way, many of the popular social media forums, tend to be "venting-machine," where everyone lobs grenades and shells at each other. Hopefully RP doesn't get that way. I like reading the comments people post on topics, which do greatly involve the military, current or past service.
