Is Paul Ryan undermining Trump so that he can be 'white knighted' in as the savior of the Republican party?

It seems Ryan is playing a similar game as when he took John Boehner's job. The reluctant guy who is just trying to do the 'right' thing. Remember how he sounded before being appointed Speaker? He sounds basically the same now.

It's actually pretty simple. The party will want to endorse the candidate they want to endorse, not who the people want to become president. We can see this in the support for Hillary Clinton as opposed to who the people want which is Bernie Sanders (Democratic side). On the Republican end of the spectrum, Trump is not supported by his party, only by the people.

SSG Pete Fleming Paul Ryan, to me, epitomizes the self-serving politician whose primary concern is him, not the country or the constituency he is elected to represent. I certainly think he sees himself as the Party's choice to be their nominee, even if the people do not.

One thing for sure, if the Republicans attempt a coup at the convention, there will be hell to pay in a great many ways, one of which is ensuring Mrs. Bill Clinton (aka "Corrupt Hillary") is elected President.

We can't know what's in any person's mind, but my guess is that he honestly expects Trump to lose the general election and he wants to disconnect GOP candidates from Trump's coattails to preserve the GOP majority in the House.

There is no savior of the Republican Party. Especially if they continue to display the total disregard of their conservative constitutes. And that is very apparent by the last guest on RallyPoint Senator Mitch McConnell. Who refused to answer and deal with the harsh criticism of the performance of Congress. It really is time to eliminate the two party system. Corruption is rampant at both ends of the spectrum. It's time individuals run as independents and stand on their own values, ideas and morality. And you Democrats need to get off your high pedestals because you are not above the deserving criticism of the ineffectiveness of Congress. Both are just as equal in being obstructionists. blah blah heard it before. Stand on the issues that effect America not partisan BS, figures that can be thrown back and forth all day. So you don't like the left or right we got it. Petty squabbling!

As CPT Jack Durish says, "We can't know what's in any person's mind", His actions seem to me to be initiating a power struggle within the GOP's public leaders. Mr. Ryan has a lot to prove, and I feel he is failing spectacularly.

Personally I am tired of the various house and Senate leaders, of both parties, trying to play president, without risking running for the office.

I'm not a fan of Paul Ryan, but I don't think he is trying to undermine Trump. I think he is passively supporting Trump through a lukewarm endorsement and without openly helping or harming him. However, I also think he is hoping that Trump implodes and the GOP comes calling for him. That will allow him to become the nominee without having to fight for it, just like how he became the Speaker.
