Is my recruiter telling me the truth that right after SOI I can volunteer to go to Recon school?

So I went to my Marine recruiter and asked him how recon school would go. He told me that right after SOI I can “volunteer” to go to Recon school. He made it sound like it’s an easy thing to get into. He explained the process in Recon school which I’m more then willing to put myself through to finish it. But I’ve heard of some recruiters making it seem like an easy task when it’s not. Does anyone have any personal experience with this?

Recruiters always are trying to sell you on the enlistment and make everything else in the army seem like an easy possibility once you're in.
The truth is, it's always possible, but that doesnt mean its guaranteed.
For your best chances, be at the top of your class in physical and academic performance, and demonstrate consistently good standards and discipline.
Be vocal with your leadership that you would like to volunteer if slots are available or follow on training is an option.

I have quite a few friends who were Recon Marines. It's true you can volunteer to try out. He made it sound easy because it is easy to volunteer, it is hard to pass. It is a selection, so most people will fail.

You could take the indoc once you get to ITB. Once you pass the indoc, you will finish training as an 0311(rifleman). After graduation, you will report to BRC (Basic Recon Course). From there, you're in Gods hands because that's where the real selection and training process begins. If you fail out, you will be sent to a Victor unit in need of a new rifleman.

You can volunteer for almost everything, making the cut is the crux of the matter.

I was Army and my recruiter told me I could volunteer after AIT. Then my Drill SGT said no. And they all laughed at me.
Try to get it into your contract
