Is it possible to upgrade a discharge after 15 years?

My Step father served many years ago and received a "General Discharge under honorable conditions". We are currently working on trying to upgrade it to a "Honorable Discharge". Has anyone had experience with this process?

It is possible, but you have to be able to show why the discharge was in error. This can be very difficult, especially for folks whose records were lost in the National Archives fire.

For Post 9/11 vets, the Wounded Warrior Project is very adept at this.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member, I've known of two individuals who attempted to do this --one with a Senator's assistance --both, to no avail. Your step-father's records should be researched prior to attempting to plow through even more red tape. e.g. If your step father's discharged was up-graded as a condition of his separation, you're probably at a dead-end. Just curious, what's driving this?
