I volunteered for the deployment and am currently holding an O3 slot (which I have been officially transferred into rather than attached). I transferred in to that spot in March (eligible for CPT in FEB). I had heard a rumor that being that since I'm on Title 10 and in a slot for the next higher rank, that there was a way to bypass the dreaded FEDREC process. The only info I could find that would justify this is in 10 USC 14316. However, I can't find anything in AR 600-8-29.

Just hoping somebody could shed some light on this. Is it possible to bypass the FEDREC promotion process if deployed and holding a position of a higher rank? 2018-12-26T03:13:19-05:00 1LT Private RallyPoint Member 4235582

I'm currently deployed and received State orders for CPT. We had guys on the scroll while deployed, some went almost the whole time w/o fedrec. The deployment did not seem to affect the promotion process. sorry... That applies whilst deployed, and CDR dependant. My BDE & BN CDRs wanted to do that for me when I was in your position. G1 incorrectly came back said, yes/no/yes/well/hold 1/no/maybe/etc. Your BN CDR has that authority to pin CPT on provided 1) you are in an O3 slot; 2) you have the time in grade; 3) if your name is not before the board or is pending the board (the later you withdrawal from the board). If your BN CDR does not wish to give you a vacancy promotion, sit and wait. Wait some more. Then wait again because CPT's lists take longer than the MOB processing lines.

A friend was given a vacancy promotion downrange. Unlike frocking, this is not a temporary promotion. You only get one vacancy in your career. Just ride it out - I know this time sucks - but it will pass.
