Is it possible for unit to reimburse you for certifications they would normally send you to training for?

I will be attending an army class on security plus in 30 days with the exam being the day after. I'm ready for the test now and would like to take it ASAP to be admitted into my colleges computer science program without having to wait for the next deadline. If I go through TA I would have to wait at least 30 days as well. Is it possible for the unit to reimburse me if I spend the 350 out of pocket?

Hey SGT (Join to see) I took the class a month ago. From what I was told you get 2 vouchers your military career. Not sure on the TA, but the actual class is worth ten promotion points under "resident course". Save the certificate from that class. The actual security plus cert is another ten points under "tech certs" under civilian education.

Be careful - I don't know but the answer may be "no" and then you'll be stuck covering that bill. My guess - what you are proposing might not work.

In my experience, as long as you have the paperwork in, you can get reimbursed for something you pay out of pocket. Best thing to do is ask whoever controls your training budget and your friendly base finance office.
