As in, are the majority of the people attending this class going to be veterans? If so, it may seem a bit redundant, as they would be acknowledging themselves. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the target group of the class? It's that one intangible that says this person, these people have put it all on the line for us. And they had no idea whom most of us were, but still they stood up and served without question. Yes, it is appropriate, always has been and always will be. You can also tally the number of Snowflakes who scurry off to their safe rooms knowing that these people might have learned to kill, might have PTSD, or might even have a spine. I've been in situations where Vets were asked to stand. Always a pang of discomfort as I don't like being the object of attention. But that is outweighed by wanting to stand with my shipmates. BTW, there should be a bump in the Vet demographic in this type of class as we tend to be more interested as a group in helping other Vets. I remember the days ('Nam Era) where Vets would never stand. We're in a positive receptive period culturally now. That too is likely to shift back. Vet support ebbs and flows just like anything else. CAPT Kevin B.
