Is it against policy to own stock in cannabis companies?

I know that in 2019, the DoD had no official policy against this. Is this still the case?

I am 99% sure you can own cannabis stocks. If it is publicly traded in one of the stock exchanges then it is a legal and legitimate stock.

I think about it all the time (investing in such stocks), but as it becomes more and more mainstream I think those companies will get crushed by industrial agriculture companies. Tobacco will probably also diversify into the crop and they have experience in already growing in a highly regulated commodity.

I currently work was a Navy Civ with a TS/SCI , we are constantly being told/sent emails that if own any stock in a cannabis company ,it will cause you to lose your clearance.
"Be advised that the DoD Central Adjudication Facility [CAF] negatively views personal investment (i.e. stock purchases) in companies that manufacture/sell/distribute marijuana. This means your security clearance may be negatively affected if you own stock in such companies."
" “investments in marijuana-related companies as ‘involvement,’ which is prohibited. Even in cases where the subject him/herself isn’t directly choosing the stocks, he or she has the responsibility to stay informed and avoid violating the federal law.”
“stock ownership must be reported and the DoDCAF will determine if the ‘involvement raises questions about the individual’s judgement, reliability, trustworthiness and willingness to comply with the laws, rules and regulations, including federal laws.”
