Ha ha

High & tight does not mean a mop top. The hair should be blended / faded in on all sides so as not to appear to be trendy like a bowl cut, etc.

I’ve seen guys virtually clean shave on all sides except the top BUT the top was not excessively long to appear as if the clean shave on the sides gave it an other than blended / faded look.Response by CW3 Jeff Held made Feb 21 at 2018 12:51 AM2018-02-21T00:51:21-05:002018-02-21T00:51:21-05:00COL Private RallyPoint Member3375554

I have seen the kind of haircut that SPC Private RallyPoint Member is alluding to in all of this. It's a shaved side with a mop of hair on top that when not gelled into place looks like a bad day at the Hunger Games. Fade is the key and it's hard to fade from skin into 2 inches of flowing god-like hair on the top. Again, this isn't a beauty contest. Another thing is that according to AR670-1, and US Army policy, you have to be within regulations at all times, both on and off duty. So, you can't let that thing go when you're not working.Response by COL Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 21 at 2018 9:04 AM2018-02-21T09:04:29-05:002018-02-21T09:04:29-05:00SGT Eric Knutson3390188

This may not apply based on the pictures I see in the discussion group, but I think it fits based on the question. Be careful to err a little on the side of going too THIN for your breakline. I would suggest hands width on top, if you go thinner, it could be considered a "Mohawk" which some Commanders may consider faddish as well, even though (in Airborne units) we have historical precedent for them (WW2 Operation Overlord) our BN CDR forbade them even as we getting ready to board the planes for deployment and made a few shave completely and then grow it back out. When I was in MCJROTC, I was taught put your hand on top of your head and the barber cleans everything not under your hand, and it has always served me pretty well as a guideline.
