Is America now a Third World country?

Democracy or DemoCRAZY? Increasing riots in the streets. Protests against police. Dysfunctional Congress. Lack of support for military--and less demographic representation. Fed and White House computers hacked. Snubs and challenges from China, Russia, Syria... Jobless college graduates and burdensome student loans. Political attempts to force redistribution of wealth, imminent domain, healthcare, lack of personal responsibiilty...on and on..

The definition of a "3rd World Country" is one that exports it's raw natural resources and imports finished products.

Does that match the U.S.?

Is the wealthiest, most excessive country in the world a 3rd world country? Go to sub-Saharan Africa and let those people laugh (if they can muster a laugh without dropping dead from starvation) you out of their country.

We stopped teaching young people how to examine facts and draw conclusions. As a result, emotional reactions now govern decision making. Compounding that, we have media and political leaders that are willing and adept at manipulating those feelings for their own advantage.
Not necessarily "third world", but very reminicent of the days of yellow journalism and state propaganda.
Those were not the "good old days", and I pray we don't go there. It led to complete disasters in the late ninteenth-early twentieth century. Whole nations collapsed. Economic chaos. Indiginous cultures destroyed in North America and Africa. The rise of facsism and communism.

So, from a geopolitical position, yes, we may be fast approaching "third world country" status, BUT with our levels of medicine, industry capable (not that we USE it...), and the will and/or capability of many of the people, we are still a 1st world country.....

voted yes however, if we are a 3rd world country....we are the richest 3rd world country....even r crack heads have a cell phone....yes, due to the lack of leadership in the past 7-8 years....we are in decline

By global standards, I'd say we are far from a Third World country. I don't know if these problems are becoming more frequent, or if that is just our perception based on a need to fill a 24/7 media schedule and social media. Even 10 years ago it we likely wouldn't hear about most of these issues because we didn't have the means to pass information along so quickly to so many people i.e. smartphones.

On the other hand, by constantly reporting on these things, maybe we're creating the problem. Who knows?
