A three-member board began the process Thursday of deciding whether to separate Fort Bragg Staff Sgt. Joshua Eisenhauer from the Army.

Seems rather lenient to me... Guys who wash out of Boot Camp get a General Discharge under honorable conditions...

Man! This is an absolute tough one. There is no right or wrong... I think. I think he should get under honorable conditions if he is in fact as sick as everyone IS claiming. We don't want another statistic. Just my 2 cents, Sgt Spencer Sikder

Sgt Spencer Sikder SSG Eisenhauer obviously went through a lot, and was deeply affected by his experiences in Afghanistan. It sounds like he was either no longer receiving treatment, or chose not to be treated. As far as his discharge goes, I believe that the board has facts that we are not privy to, and thus their decision is based on ALL the facts. As a PTSD sufferer myself, I can relate to the difficulties of adjusting to life outside the Military with no support. I hope that whatever the board's decision, that our Brother-in-Arms will receive the care, and treatment, that he deserves as a Soldier who served his Country.

Reading through this, he should have been discharged (and gotten help) well before the incident.

This is our fault. We let the situation fester, and didn't get him the help he needed.

It doesn't matter if it was PTS or he got drunk on his balcony. He was obviously unbalanced before the incident, and we should have corrected that situation before it reached that point.

We allowed him to join with a waiver, we did not properly check/follow up on him....we owe this man the medical treatment he needs!

After reviewing the accompanying article Sgt Spencer Sikder, I think that Staff Sgt. Joshua Eisenhauer needs to have a full medical exam including a psychiatric evaluation, PTSD work-up, etc. to either verify if he has periodic lapses is faking his symptoms or something else.
In any event I concur that he should be discharged under Honorable Conditions so that he is eligible for health care through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

There is a lot of information that we do not have available. I believe he was damaged goods when he was given a waiver (I assume he received one) to enlist. And if we are to believe what we read in the article he went through quite a bit. I would tend to agree with CSM Michael J. Uhlig that this soldier needs medical treatment. I believe we (the government and populous) owe him that much.

He'll no! This soldier and Veteran deserves the best healthcare, mental health to be exact. I have worked in the mental health field for 20 yrs. PTSD can relaspe. PTSD is a mean demon and can mess up your life. 22 Veterans commit suscide a day. There are only 24 hrs in a day. Shit, when I hear a loud boom I cannot help myself to take cover. Anything, anything can trigger a soldier with PTSD. Police and firemen need training when dealing g with PTSD. Hell, police and firemen can get PTSD
It is a two way street. The 4th guideline of the warrior ethos, is not to leave a fallen comrade behind. This soldier does not need to fall between the cracks. He needs a Peer Support Specialist to connect with who is further in his or her recovery. If this soldier is facing legal charges, he is entitled to go before "Veterans Court" for the judge to mandate mental health treatment, instead of throwing him in the slammer
Do not let this guy become one of the 22.

I'd say the conviction by civilian court would dictate a Bad Conduct discharge. While I feel for him, his actions have consequences.

I be looking to hear more but do comprehend the procedures to upgrade as I do receive VA benefits and is inform to retire but I make it 70.
