In the new Army promotion system, is attaining an SLC slot an indicator of being selected?

From what I’ve seen of SSGs getting random SLC dates and SFCs getting surprise MLC dates... I wouldn’t doubt it.

No, my unit I just signed out of attained 5 SLC slots for my MOS and I was a name thrown out there to attend and I haven’t even had my first look for SFC yet but since I’m PCSing they gave it to someone else. The point I’m trying to prove is sometimes there are left over slots and they fill them accordingly

My understanding is that usually the top 10% are offered the seats first, but that is not a guarantee of promotion.

Truth be told, Schools Branch has no access to promo lists. Slots are given based on availability to those who have mat the prerequisites to attend. Does it look like it might be a good sign? SURE! Is it? No analysis has proven such a thing.

I've had all of the prerequisites met for the past 3 yrs and still no SLC slot...under the STEP policy, you have to be selected before you are given a SLC date.

After much research, I've come to find no information that suggest SLC notification is an indication of selection. I have also come to find that T.E.S.P (in my opinion) would work a lot better than S.T.E.P.

I have seen it both ways one 18yr Service SSG go to SLC prior to board and not on list. A SFC in my SLC class this Jan made the MSG list.

I highly doubt it. I believe since there is no promotion board until 2021 for SFC that HRC is trying to get us to SLC. My school date was the day before the board convened but the more I think about it I don't put too much emphasis on that.

It doesn't mean your selected, I did SLC in January of 2017 and I am still a SSG but we shall se on the new list.

I spoke with my school manager a few months ago about getting SLC in route from Korea. She told me no, that she would be basing seats off of the list. But I all of sudden I got an SLC notification email last week and I'm slotted in ATTRS. So either I'm on the list or there weren't that many picked up and she had seats left over. I suppose I'll find out for sure in a few days.

I believe so; I recently got selected to MSG; I received an MLC school date prior to board release date. Hope that is the case for you

It is not. I personally know half a dozen NCO’s who were just slotted. According to rumors, only 4 68k’s were selected Army wide and only 1 of those that I know were selected. It’s my understanding that the NCOA is pulling a lot of “eligible” NCO’s to fill seats as there has been a sharp decline in promotions for many MOS’s.
