In Israel they train ex special forces to conceal carry to act as a "second tier" of defense to terrorism. Should we?

Almost anyone can concealed carry here in Arizona, and many other states. In most others you can take a class and get a license to concealed carry fairly easily... given that, I'm not sure what purpose this would serve.

I have a concealed carry permit, and usually carry when I'm hiking in areas where drug and human trafficking take place... if the ex special forces person wants to concealed carry, there is nothing stopping them in most of the country.

Yes, we should. just like retired peace officers, like my belated father carried a weapon and he had a ritired Sheriff badge. As usual, the Democrats and ACLU would filibuster against it.

Well, my question would be, if so trained SF, why would you not use your training to that effect? Yes, I think they should be so trained and maybe a special Police certified to act in such situation, if they desire to do such a thing.

Israel is the model for keeping their citizens safe. Until our citizens learn that some things need to change to vett their visitors like they do, to build a wall like they did, and have a nation of trained service members like they do, we will always lag behind. If we got attacked by multiple Arab nations like they did our fearless leader wouldn't admit we were under attack until they took his chair from under his butt.

In Israel damn near any citizen can carry and a much higher percentage of the population does than here. I don't see that being an ex special forces changes anything.

We have had bills in the past to allow military and veterans to carry on aircraft and across state lines but dems blocked passing of the bills.

I mean, that's more than little bit easier to do in Israel because of the smallness of their country and the fact that some of them live in the occupied territories where the threat is the highest, so it's logistically easier for ex-SF to respond if need be. Plus here, you're many times less likely to be caught in a terrorist attack.

I think all law abiding citizens should keep and bear arms. A right not exercised is a right that is easy to take away. History has shown us that private ownership of firearms is an effective deterrent from invasion.

I believe our 2nd Amendment is our second tier that you speak of. The fact that we have many former military and LEO's that always carry also strengthens this second tier.

Just to give an example of something that may cause discussion or give ideas.

The National Guards (Army and Air) of multple States were ordered by their respective Governors after the attack on the Marine Recruiting Station in Tennessee to establish a way for their Soldiers and Airmen to be able to have access to a weapon in order to deter attacks on armories and recruiting stations.

Soldiers and Airmen on AGR and Recruiters are generally carrying concealed in the NG to protect themselves and deter against attacks. Soldiers and Airmen not on AGR or Recruiting are allowed to carry a personally owned weapon concealed pending training and approval from their respective Commander in multiple States as well.

For the Active Component and Reserves of each Branch this is not possible because they are under Federal authority. NG can do it because they are under State authority unless otherwise ordered. I think this should be expanded to our Active and Reserve counterparts. Be given a pistol qual, a training course, and Commander authorization per service member.

Then all of you at Fort Couch should arm yourselves, train regularly, and teach others how to shoot, research your local laws before doing so. Some States have more Freedom involving firearms than others.

Absolutely not. It is too close to giving the military authority to operate on US soil. Protection at home is something that should always be in the realm of a civil authority. Israel is set up they way they are because they have no choice. They have a small population physically surrounded by multiple nations that wish to see them disappear off the map. We don't need retired SOF guys running around to protect the nation when we have multiple civilian agencies who already have that task. The smarter idea would be to increase their funding and training and not waste federal assets on old SOF guys.

Absolutely!!! If Israel did not perform many of the invisible security measures that it does, it would have cease to exist years ago. Here is a country that does wait for the attack to happen and then act. Nor does it fail to respond when something bad does happen. And it doesn't give a good Rat Fart what the world thinks.

We ought to revitalize the Constitutional Militia of the several States. It is the civic duty of each citizen to be prepared to respond to crises, including violent attacks of whatever origin.
Every citizen should be trained at a minimum to safely and responsibly carry and operate a pistol and rifle. Having been trained, carrying the pistol ought to be generally required.

Perhaps we should incorporate a concealed carry refresher into ACAP, as well.
