This whole leader thing is ass backwards. Here, in the USA, we elect a Representative - not a leader. The President is elected to Represent our interests abroad. Congressmen are elected to represent our interests as a United States. We elect state officials to represent our interests at the state level. Same with County/parish, city/town level governments.

There’s a lot of thought and planning needed first. What’s the government organization going to look like? What’s the official language going to be, if any? Same can be said for religions. What monetary policy or currency will be established? What about military, police, emergency services, health, etc.? Does the military even exist, or is it now a giant police force? How does the leadership change? These questions are just off the top of my head. But I agree with CW5 Jack Cardwell on selecting an existing head of state for such a role.

The US is so large and diverse, we have a difficult time maintaining a democratic republic. The roles of states have been much diminished, and the role of the federal executive has ballooned to resemble the power of a King. Is any serious student of History suggesting mankind is ready for a world supreme leader? The only ones who would want such a role (megalomaniacs) would resemble those we have seen in the past (Hitler, Stalin, Alexander).

Sorry-I'm with everyone else; none of the above.

I have deeply-held faith-based reasons for being adverse to a "one-world" government, but also practical aversions. Let's begin with trying to apply a "global" legislative protocol: Small European nations with limited personal property cultures, and tribal societies with even less extant notions would be incompatible with most North-Western Hemispherical notions of what constitutes public domain. Nations with long-standing centralized governments would struggle to incorporate true parliamentary or constitutional forms of policy-making... and of course vice versa. Leaders with experience running trillion dollar budgets and those used to scraping by on millions would have very different economies of scale. How does any such entity suddenly resolve millennia of cultural, religious, and ethnic tradition? The only way to even begin to implement such a government would be through some severe form of dictatorship... no other method could enact hegemony quickly enough to deal with all of the immediate problems of a combined world government and economy.

I say let's keep it the way it is, and keep doing our best to avoid killing one another whenever possible.
