In the almost 6 years I've been. I've seen the power slip away from the NCOs because the chain of command doesn't back up its leadership. With the 2000 generation slowly coming into the army, it's only going to allow the soldiers to gain more ground against the NCO. The chain of command will believe the soldier over the NCO. What ways would you guys think the army can improve itself.

My personal belief is the NCO Corps has lost the trust of our officers. In the last 14 years the NCO Corps has done an outstanding job of leading in combat but, we have let basic discipline falter. We are very good at our job but we lack an understanding of the bigger picture. We dismiss things as stupid or dumb because we think it doesn't have any relevance with what we do.

You get your power and authority from your officers and if they don't think you deserve it or you do not earn it, they will take it away. I am not bashing on the entire NCO Corps as there are some very professional NCOs in our ranks however, a small amount of bad apples paint a broad picture for the rest of us.

Just take a look around this site and some of the discussions and see how NCOs conduct themselves. If they do and say the things, that they do and say on here, it pretty much proves my point.

I also think that when EO started being pushed hard it also took a lot of the NCO's power. Now don't get me wrong, I am firmly behind equal rights for all. But the younger Soldiers discovered that when they were corrected for a minor infraction all they had to do was go see EO. Now a well meaning NCO just doing their job is punished and his/her career pretty much ruined.

And yes SGT Inhofe, you are correct that a lot of chains of command won't stand behind the NCO. So the NCO pretty much just says to hell with it. And it becomes a revolving door of bullshit.

Damn this is still happening? Sad, during my early years as a senior NCO I made decisions that stood. Then things began to change. The authority I had and decisions I made migrated to the officer ranks. Question is why? I never found the answer.
