If your access to a physical firing range is limited, what do you think is the best alternative? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/if-your-access-to-a-physical-firing-range-is-limited-what-do-you-think-is-the-best-alternative

Being part of a new unit, we're still moving through the "growing pains" of setting up. We've got the mission covered, now on to the main mission of an NCO; Training. We have very limited access to the firing range and supplies. I'd prefer not to get a lot of "get your rifles and head to the range" responses. If it was that simple we'd be doing it. With that said what would you think is the next best thing? You can also use the beamhit lasers to do dry fire drills on paper targets across the room. IM me if you want more details. Schedule time in the nearest EST as well. Work a deal, they let you tag along you clean some weapons.

Another suggestion is to hit up some other local posts....I did this frequently while I was at Ft. Belvoir You can borrow weapons, take the classes the other post require to run the range, order ammo and you are all set for a fun day of shooting stuff.

Finally if you are just looking for weapons familiarization there is always the EST 2000. I know its not the same as going to the range and no you can't use it for qualification. But, it is easy to get access to, just need to take a few classes to be certified to run it and you are all set to go.

MSG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 18 Apr 2014 22:49:20 -0400 2014-04-18T22:49:20-04:00 Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 19 at 2014 1:20 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/if-your-access-to-a-physical-firing-range-is-limited-what-do-you-think-is-the-best-alternative?n=105752&urlhash=105752

SSG, see what facilities your post has. We actually had a guy spend about 1-2 months putting together a comprehensive listing of training facilities on our post. See if EST is available. If the ranges are present, but always occupied, try to work with the units that have them. See if your unit can maybe do things to help out the unit that has it. In exchange, they let you get a squad on the line. It's not ideal, but sometimes, with limited resources, you have to get creative. Are there other areas or facilities, not on post that you can use?
