D. 7939362

I wouldn't change anything. My life today is the way it is because of the experiences I had over the last 57 years. To change something back then, would most likely change what I have now. I've been married 34+ years. I have four children, two son-in-laws, at the end of this month, I'll gain a daughter-in-law. I have 8 grandchildren. During my 24 years of Active Duty, I eventually always made it back home from six deployments, 5 of which were to the Arabian Gulf and one to the western Pacific. Also did a unaccompanied tour to Seoul, Korea, still came home at the end of it. Lots of training evolutions, and still made it home. Hardest job I had in my 24 years of Active Service was the four months serving as a Casualty Assistance Calls Officer, and having to notify a young Sailor's wife and parents that he had been killed on the gun range, during training, at Camp Lejeune. He was a Navy Corpsman, had a 3yr old son.
Nope, wouldn't change anything, because I'm still here, enjoying a family farm, a Navy pension, a full-time job as a Quality Manager, and a part-time job as a school bus driver. I see five of my grandkids everyday, because they live in the same house as I do.
The Navy, and I'm sure all the services do, required a lot of sacrifice, but I'm still here, still married to the same woman who said yes back in 1988. I wouldn't want to take the chance of doing something different and ending up with something different now. Response by CPO David R.
