SPC Private RallyPoint Member 6853361

I found out that VA Disability chart has different pay chart for category of Veteran alone, W/ spouse, W/ children, etc...
If you get medboarded out as a single soldier then later (about a year after) gets married, can you add dependent for higher pay chart from the disability? If you get married a year after you got medboarded out, can you add dependent and get higher amount for the disability? 2021-03-25T20:13:40-04:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 6853361

I found out that VA Disability chart has different pay chart for category of Veteran alone, W/ spouse, W/ children, etc...
If you get medboarded out as a single soldier then later (about a year after) gets married, can you add dependent for higher pay chart from the disability? The DAV, American Legion, VFW have VSO's, and many Counties employ Veteran's Representatives who perform as VSO's. At our VA Center, there is actually a VSO there.
All that said, I *THINK* I read somewhere that a spouse only gets benefits after they and the Veteran have been married for some period of time; but like I said, I only THINK I read that. Again, contact a VSO. Your Famiky status can have bearing on your VA Benefit based on certain perimeters. Go to the websie a read up a bit, the charts are pretty clear and do address dependents and timing. That can increase your disability comp payment received.
It won't change retirement pay though but you should be able to enroll them in tricare though.
