If you could serve in another country's military, what would it be and why?

Mine would be the Royal Military, I want to live in the UK one day and it would be interesting to serve in another country.

I tended to go "out there" since birth. So I'd go for the Swiss Guard at Vatican City.

I did an exchange program when I got to be part of Canada's Army for a while. I'd probably pick them.

First, there's no "Royal Military". The Royal title is applied to their naval and air services. Their Army however isn't Royal, but many of it's regiments are. As for opportunities, there's this:

Having worked with NATO, I have much respect for most of our NATO allies, but IMHO the U.S. military is where I want to serve. ROK is outstanding as well. The Aussies had shrimp on the barbie available on one of their C-130s flying out of Iraq...that was impressive.

I served with several who served in other militaries before the U.S. I knew a Medic that Served as a Medic in the British Army, I also met a man who served as an Officer in the Germany Army and was a Specialist in the U.S. Army.
As for me I could only serve in the U.S. Military. Yet I do understand why people serve in the Israeli Defense Force because of being Jewish.
The most famous soldier who served in Three Army's was known in the Special Forces Community as Larry Allan Thorne. He served in the Finish Army and then the Germany Army fighting Russians on the Eastern Front and later The United States Army Where is was a Captain in Special Forces and Killed in Vietnam.

I admire the British Royal Marines because it’s a career commitment, we had a Color Sgt attached to us in Angelico. I’d have a hard time right out the gate committing to a 20-25 year commitment, so you have to be impressed with that. But serve , hell no, only the US Marine Corps, I wouldn’t even consider the Army or Navy, AF maybe.

On a Sailor to Sailor and Ship to Ship basis, the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy is just as good as the US Navy. Much respect for the RN and RAN personnel I met while in the service. So, I would probably pick one of those two.

I have served alongside the troops of many other nations, and found them to be excellent soldiers and good friends, deserving of my respect and admiration. But why would I want to serve any other nation, or any other way of life, than my own?
