If you could have any piece of new technology as an infantry soldier what would it be and why?

Doing a quick study amongst infantrymen being that I am not one but would like to confirm my own hypothesis of needs. We live in a world that innovation is occurring in a super fast pace. For infantrymen if you could snap your fingers and get a Technology that is available today what would it be and why, also if you have a reference to this tech don't hesitate to indicate a link to it.

That's a good question for someone in the Infantry, having been in an Armor battlion we were more afraid of RPG's and anti-tank rockets sir CPT Enrique M.

I'm not an Infantryman, but I can say from my days of humping a ruck and an aid bag, less is more. Every time someone wants to stick a new gadget or monitor on you, it's more stuff to get tangled up in. If there was one thing that I wish had been invented it would have been lighter, thinner, more breathable armor. Army is always going to come up with more gadgets, sensors, radios, rescue equipment, drones, and robots for your to carry, plus all their batteries. So if you can have thinner lighter armor it's easier to carry

I'm old-school, so the technology that I would want wouldn't be anything bleeding-edge, it would be making whatever I have to carry and use more reliable, and more durable, without making it more unwearable, CPT Enrique M..

An M-16 that had the guts of a AK-47, in doing so, it wouldn't have jammed alot when fouled up with carbon.
But we dealt with it in the infantry, most don't know it, but the forward assist did what it was supposed to do. It got the round seated in the chamber, but your M-16 would still only shoot one round at a time, until cleaning, that's if you had the time too.
All the optics, and laser stuff, why have it, when you could call in indirect fire, or an air strike, or just get online and mop up the area.

I agree with the exoskeleton and of course a set of clothing that could handle temps from a -50 to 120 degrees F and provide protection from projectiles.

A combat suit that can carry say 300 pounds of gear with ease including primary and secondary weapons. Also has its own temp control system and coms system that actually works. Maybe something like the suit in the book by John Ringo A Hymn Before Battle.

I would like to move towards plate carriers. I know the Gen 4 is doing that in a way, but my hang up is how bulky they are. I’m not trying to be a high speed operator here, I just would like better mobility and shouldering of my weapon. I have been told by Senior Leaders that current kits are just fine and my answer is always “With all due respect, my soldiers and myself are the ones bounding in the field and managing doorways during MOUT.”

An ammo an of small drones with C4 to gather info over hills and tree lines. Once the enemy is spotted, I can attack and cause hate and discontent while laughing my arse off.

It has been a hell of a long time since I was in the Infantry. But in line with SFC Private RallyPoint Member 's "less is more" I would like to see current light-weight, long-lasting battery tech incorporated into existing electronics. It would, of course, require reconfiguring EVERYTHING, and therefore cost too much. But that is what I would like.

This tech can not only reduce the weight of devices, it reduces "spare battery" load, as well. Plus, moving to batteries that have a standard life of 1 year+ in many things (Nods, optics, GPS), or even 6 months, can make things a lot easier in the world of 12 month deployments. Drop in new batteries in the staging area (e.g. Kuwait) and you are good. At the 6 month mark (for year-long batteries) drop in new batteries, just to be safe.

It would also reduce waste - How many times have you changed out Nods batteries before a night mission, even though the old ones were working fine (because we don't want them dying ON mission). And then again for the next night mission, 2 nights later. Etc. Waste will still exist, but it will be less.
