If you could choose past or present service members to serve with, who would you choose on your fantasy military team?

Throughout the year in neighborhoods, schools, offices and work site groups of friends and coworkers participate in fantasy sports leagues. I thought it might be a good idea to develop a fantasy military team league.
Your team could be from the past, present or a combination.
I lean towards a past team and a current RallyPoint member team.
Unlike the traditional fantasy teams we could all include the same person in our draft choices.
Since RallyPoint limits us to tagging 20 names, I thought that 20 would be a good limit for a team size.

I would have to chose 20 Chinook pilots and crewmembers in my current unit. I think it would be fantastic to meet and serve with a number of historical figures and leaders throughout American history, but would still rather assemble a team from my current unit. I think one of the most important things about a successful team is the cohesion and environment created by the team and its members, I couldn't be happier with the one I am a part of now. I believe we are the best not because we have super starts, but because we support each other and always push for improvement.

Pfc Robert Hystad (my maternal grandfather~died in ww2) I would have liked to have known him. Pfc Arthur Sollitt (my godfather/great uncle~combat wounded Korea) the best chess player I have ever known. Love you and miss you uncle Art. Spc Paul Thunker (one of my soldiers) a fantastic soldier but had a drinking problem. Died in dui accident. I wish I could have helped you more. Spec Freeman Park (combat wounded in Iraq) great soldier/smart guy, terrific collegiate wrestler. Spec Lowell Bring (uncle~noncombat wounded vietnam) he was radio operator struck by lightning. CSM Oliver don't know his 1st name (vietnam, he was a sgt at the time) he had the most intimidating intellect. Extensive vocabulary. I didn't like him but would want him on my team. Major General Goldhorn (LTC when I met him) great leader,great guy. If he met you once he remembered your name. Memory like an elephant. Cpl Lorrenzo Farrow (my 1st team leader) he was incredibly charismatic leader. Sgt Brian Hodges "hoss" I could run laps around him. He could out push-up me. We'd score the same on a p.t. Test. Our leaders would put outstanding on his NCOER and satisfactory on mine. SFC Sargent(funny I know) he was national guardsman and worked at AEROS data center for regular job. He would teach the officers. No kidding. Memorized everything he read. Too many others to list.

My grandfather. WWII Korea and Vietnam combat vet. Rough and tumble battlefield commissioned infantry officer. Pfc turned PL in WWII, took over a company while in Korea and assumed command of a battalion in Vietnam.

This list could get really long, but I'll identify my ideal staff members. Each is listed with the ranks they held during the most noteworthy periods in their careers. My flag staff would include General George Patton, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, Admiral "Bull" Halsey, 1st Viscount Horatio Nelson, and Lord Louis Mountbatten. My mid-level officers would include Colonel Curtis LeMay, CDR Samuel Gravely (my first skipper and the first black admiral in the U.S. Navy), LTC Hal Moore, MAJ Teddy Roosevelt, CPT Ed "Too Tall" Freeman, CPT Bruce "Snake" Crandall, and 1LT Audie Murphy. My senior NCOs would include my own CSM, Leonard Stephenson, SGM Basil Plumley, and MSG Roy Benavidez. Then I'll take any three companies of U.S. Marines, complete with Navy Corpsman 2nd Class Donald "Doc" Ballard, CMOH recipient, my dear friend and Brother Mason, and we are "Good to Go!!!"

Wow, just 20. I cannot do this. From the revolutionary war to the War on Terror, there are too many to name. I would want to Have General Washington and Admiral Nimitz running the show. I think that the pilots of the Lafayette Escadrille from WWI are a great example of the tenacity we represent. These men volunteered to use a largely untested combat technique, in a new untested technology, in a battlefield with a short life expectancy, and still did it. Same could be said for the airborne soldiers of WWII. Speaking of WWII, I would want to have the island hopping Marines who spent the war up to their elbows in shit fighting jungle disease as much as they fought the Japanese. The air cavalry of Vietnam again a new concept with brave men doing a shitty job. I could keep going on, but the point is that there are so many that represent the tenacious, inventive, courageous nature of those who have defended our great nation.

As for RallyPoint, It is not fair to limit the list to 20. I have communicated on here with many wonderful people. My way of thinking has changed. I realized that I care more about certain issues than I thought I did. This is all because of the wonderful people on RP. I will start with SGT Private RallyPoint Member, she was the first to welcome me on RP and make me feel like I belonged here. MAJ Private RallyPoint Member, LTC Stephen F., GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad, SCPO David Lockwood, and many others have caused me to think, laugh, and I will admit even shed a tear or two.

So overall, in answer to your original question, My dream team is just Rally Point. It is a group of people who makes each other angry, happy, and sad. It is both thought provoking and laughter inducing. We address serious issues like PTSD, and light issues like video games. I am truly grateful for each of the contacts I have made on RP, and all of the members who have made RP feel like a great big (dysfunctional sometimes) family.
