For a 1 week course they did a good job of cramming as much into it as they could.

A Colonel attending a mandatory TAP program with every other AFSC/ MOS/ and every other service and rank over 3 days. I don't remember anything. I was being medically retired with epilepsy. Thank goodness for the USSOCOM CARE COALITION, WWP, and my husband, cause I didn't have any idea what had happened, why it happened and what I could do. Driving is usually required to get to employment.

I think there needs to be more focus on networking. Having companies come in and build relationships with those who are retiring out at say a min. of 6-8 months out, to start building relationships, maybe offer job shadowing programs or events to help military personnel assimilate into the civilian sector a little easier.

Having representatives from various industries to come in and speak about their company culture and how they specifically would like to see resumes, what types of positions they have available other than just entry level and what one can do over the next 6-8mths+ to open more opportunities for that specific company or industry.

Networking opportunities even among other SFL-TAP associates would be beneficial as often military personnel are looking to relocate so having assistance in being provided a direct connection to those areas would be a great start.

As you can see, I focus on networking a lot as this is key in gaining employment.

Training on creating an effective LinkedIn profile and civilianised resume. Learning about RallyPoint, Veterati and the Veteran Mentor Group (LinkedIn) should be a must also.

For the USAF, I'd really like to see an internship opportunity added like we see in the Soldier for Life program. When I went through TAP, there was no such option available and I'm hearing some great stories out of the SFL team lately.

Ma'am, If this thread is still active by Nov 1st, I will let you know. I will start my 24 months TAP out for retirement at that time. I am not going there expecting too much, as I will still be 2 years from retirement. But, I am excited to start closing my last chapter in the Army.

I brief VA Benefits on Fridays and I just wish more people were more attentive to benefits besides disability and education. That and they showed up for helped when they needed it.

Could have done a segment on how there is no camaraderie on the outside and everything you have come to depend on as far as your buddies is now gone when you leave. At least I hope it's better now with the advent of facebook, could have used it back in 98 when I left, might not have gone through such a hard time when I came home.
