Never quit fighting for your Soldiers. It's ok to discipline them and hold them accountable, but also ensure that they are allowed to make mistakes and grow from them.

That you care about their interest. If troops think you are just mission oriented, then you have left the human side out of the equation. I realize the importance of mission accomplishment, but it takes the most valuable asset you have to get it done and that's your troops. Never forget how you got where you are in the military, you are a leader of men and women and they will go to the moon if they know you respect them. Where are the leaders when the mission is completed?
